this song was written for savannah's annual SIDEWALK ART FESTIVAL, hosted by the savannah college of art and design. i first recorded this song as part of a tribute cd to celebrate the school's 20th anniversary. it fit the theme of the LOW COUNTRY LADY album, so i included it. i'm particularly happy with the sound of the guitar on this song. i'm no virtuoso (not even close), but every now and then i can actually produce the sounds that i hear in my head...and this is one of them.
gonna make my mark
down at forsyth park
gonna buy some chalk
and draw on the sidewalk
i've already got
a drawing in mind
and a better one
would be hard to find
it's not too simple
but it's not too hard
i've already practiced
in my own backyard
nobody else
will believe their eyes
they'll stare at me
as i take first prize
they might just as well
not bother to come
of course, second place
is plenty for some
gonna make my mark
down at forsyth park
gonna buy some chalk
and draw on the sidewalk
