the lyrics were written from the perspective of a woman who has finally figured out that life on st. simons is what she's been looking for all along. this song completes my little st. simons song cycle and is the last song on the LOW COUNTRY LADY album. it's also my favorite track. i wrote the lyrics while driving in my car between savannah and st. simons, which reminded me of an interview with boyce and hart (LAST TRAIN TO CLARKSVILLE and many other MONKEES' classics). just for the record, my favorite place to write songs is my bathtub, but my car is a close second (as lyrics hit me, i sing them over and over again until i get a chance to pull over and jot them down).
she's been away
for a long, long time
she couldn't give you
the reason or rhyme
she's coming home
yes, she's leaving today
and when she comes home
this time she's going to stay
she's coming home today
she's on her way back home
she's coming home today
this time she's gonna stay
she's had her fun now
but she's had her fill
she's booked a plane
down to jacksonville
from there it's only
just about one hour's drive
to the only place
where her dreams still survive
she's coming home today
she's on her way back home
she's coming home today
this time she's gonna stay
