bob pendarvis: songs

abby and amanda

(bob pendarvis)
music and lyrics by bob
have you folks heard of THE DITTY BOPS (abby dewald and amanda barrett)? i first saw them in concert when they opened for NICKELCREEK (another amazing band) at the johnny mercer theater in savannah, georgia. i had heard good things about them, but nothing could have prepared me for their simply too-good-to-be-true harmonies. i've always loved beatles/beach boys/everly bros. styled harmonies and listening to the ditty bops in concert left me practically moved to tears. a few weeks later, having purchased both of their cds (FIVE STARS, people...buy them now), i kept the girls in my thoughts as they began their summer-long promotional tour...traveling via bicycles from los angeles to new york! see why i love these girls? they totally, totally ROCK!!!i wrote this song using imagery taken from the girl's bicycle tour blog. it was written as a way of expressing my own personal admiration and love for the ditty bops and their innovative, adorable music. long may they ride!
abby and amanda, two dreamers on two wheels
abby and amanda, sharing veggie meals
magic in the underground, pink lightning in the sky
abby and amanda, much more than meets the eye

starting from los angeles
after a farewell feast
dolphins swam and pirates sang
as they left for the east

helping them along the way
dear friends and family
ian, lana, boo and greg
miss elva and miss bee

traveling hours and hours
from sunup till sundown
they offered their sweet music
from town to town to town

abby and amanda...

howling winds that burned their eyes
and chilled them to the core
scary packs of barking dogs
and no one at the door

mormon crickets, rumble strips
thick clouds of pesticides
heat waves cooked the highways
and tanned their pretty hides

creepy dudes with attitudes
angry rabid squirrels
lesser men would give right up
but not these brave young girls

abby and amanda...

handsome little devils
a dinosaur and twine
grazing cows and antelopes
all helped their journey shine

they charmed so many old friends
and made some new friends, too
inventing ice burritos
just one more thing to do

from may until september
they rode all summer long
some said they'd never make it
but our girls proved them wrong

abby and amanda, two dreamers on two wheels
abby and amanda, sharing veggie meals
magic in the underground, pink lightning in the sky
abby and amanda, much more than meets the eye
